About us

Everyday words in 11 languages, from a Canadian company

We make Learning With Momo for families, and for teen and adult learners, who want to hear a language clearly and practise it with no ads in the way.

Why we make it

Words for home, family and travel

Maybe it is the language your grandparents speak, a trip coming up, or the first words you want your child to hear. Learning With Momo starts with those words.

  • Everyday words, not a textbook. Family, animals, food, colours, numbers, feelings and more, plus 16 travel phrases such as "Where is the bathroom?" and "The bill, please".
  • A clear clip for every word. Every word has its own pre-made audio clip, spoken by a clear AI (neural) voice. Tap the card to hear it again.
  • One app from age 2 to grown-up. Little Explorer gets bigger pictures and buttons, and its game prompts are spoken, not written. Every mode has speaking practice. Older learners get travel phrases and, for Arabic, the 28 letters with tracing.
  • Your own language on every card. Every card also shows the word in your own language: English by default, or one of 11 others. So a parent who speaks Arabic or French can help too.

Our values

What we stand by

No ads

No ads, no ad networks and no ad scripts, in any age mode.

What the app records

The app keeps its own usage records under your account email, such as minutes played, game scores and missed words.

Your voice stays with you

Recordings from speaking practice and the reading tutor never leave your device.

No pressure

Speaking practice has no scores and no grades. Listen, hold to record, then play yourself back.

Clear AI voices

Every word has its own pre-made audio clip, spoken by a clear AI (neural) voice. A few extras, like the Arabic letter names, use your device's built-in voice.

Grown-ups in charge of reading

In the reading tutor, the microphone is off until a grown-up turns it on. The reading grown-ups area sits behind a parent check, and parents can delete reading data at any time.

Plain talk

What Learning With Momo is not

We would rather you know before you sign up.

  • Not a translator. Every card shows the word in your own language, but there is no box where you type a word to translate it. A translate tool is coming soon.
  • Not a course. There are no grammar lessons, conversation classes or certificates. It teaches everyday words, short phrases, Arabic letters and English phonics.
  • No live teachers or chatbots. There are no live teachers, no chat and no AI tutor. The reading tutor is guided phonics practice that adapts by fixed rules, not AI.
  • Not synced across devices. Your stars, stickers and streak show only in the browser where you earned them. Reading tutor progress does follow your account.
  • Reading is English only. There is no reading tutor for the 11 languages in the app. The English one is built for young children, not teens or adults.
  • Not in the app stores. There is no App Store or Google Play app.

Questions

About us, answered

Who runs Learning With Momo?

1001569350 Ontario Inc., a Canadian company. Learning With Momo is run under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).

Does Learning With Momo show ads?

No. There are no ads and no ad networks in any age mode.

What voices does the app use?

Every word has its own pre-made audio clip, spoken by a clear AI (neural) voice. Spanish uses a Mexican voice and Portuguese a Brazilian voice. A few extras, like the Arabic letter names, use your device's built-in voice.

Is my voice uploaded anywhere?

No. In speaking practice and the reading tutor, your recording stays in your browser's memory so you can play it back. It is never uploaded, each new take replaces the last, and it is gone when you reload.

How much does it cost?

New accounts start with a free 90-day trial, and no card is needed. After the trial, membership is set up by hand on request. Planned prices are on the pricing page, marked coming soon.
