For teens (13+)
Everyday words and phrases for teens, in 11 languages
Learning With Momo has a Teens and Grown-ups mode for learners 13 and up. Learn 227 words and phrases, including 16 for travel, hear each one in a clear AI voice, then record yourself and play it back. It teaches vocabulary and short phrases, not grammar, and it is not a course.

The mode
One mode for 13 and up
The first time you open the app, you choose an age mode. Teens and Grown-ups (13+) is one mode shared by teens and adults. Your choice is saved on the device, and you can change it any time with the age-mode button at the top of the screen. Big Kid mode (6 to 12) has almost all of the same features; the one extra in Teens and Grown-ups is the How everyone says it box for Arabic learners.
- All 15 picture decks, including Travel Phrases
- Find it!, Memory match, How many? and I spy, each ending with stars, confetti and "Nice work!"
- Say it like Momo, for recording yourself and playing it back
- My progress: stars, a score out of 100 and a medal for each deck
- Today's word and a day streak
- For Arabic learners: the Alphabet, Trace it, the Dialect lab and the How everyone says it box
- No ads and no ad networks

Everyday phrases
Greetings, family, food and 12 more decks
Momo teaches a fixed set of 227 everyday words and phrases in 15 picture decks. The decks are the same in all 11 languages, and every word has its own pre-made audio clip, spoken by a clear AI (neural) voice.
- Hello & Phrases has 18 lines, such as "How are you?", "Thank you", "What's your name?", "My name is…" and "Sorry".
- Other decks cover family, animals, food and drink, colours, shapes, numbers 1 to 20, your body, feelings, nature and weather, your things, school, clothes and transport.
- Each card shows the word and a pronunciation hint. Every card also shows the word in your own language: English by default, or one of 11 others.
- Each card plays the word, then the word in your own language. Tap to hear it again.
- Nouns come with their article in French, Spanish, Portuguese and German, for example le chat and die Katze.

Travel phrases
16 phrases for shopping, eating out, hotels and getting around
The Travel Phrases deck has 16 short phrases, grouped here by situation. All 16 are in all 11 languages, each with its own audio clip. The deck is in both Big Kid and Teens and Grown-ups modes.
Shopping and money
How much is this? Can I pay by card?
At a restaurant
The menu, please. The bill, please. It's delicious!
At the hotel
I have a reservation. A room for two. Where is the hotel? What's the wifi password?
Getting around
Where is the bathroom? I need a taxi. To the airport, please. I'm lost.
When you are stuck
I don't understand. Do you speak English? Help me, please!
Before a trip
Getting ready for a trip
Heading to Spain or Portugal? Spanish uses a Mexican voice and Portuguese uses a Brazilian voice, so the app does not teach the accents of Spain or Portugal.
Add it to your home screen
Open Momo in a modern web browser on your phone, tablet or computer and add it to your home screen. It opens in its own window, like an app.
Practise the Travel Phrases deck
Go through the 16 phrases, then play Find it! and Memory match on the deck to test yourself.
Save offline
On the My progress screen, tap Save offline. It downloads the audio for the language you are learning and for your own language, about 8 to 12 MB.
Check in every 7 days
Offline use works for up to 7 days after the app last confirmed your trial or membership online. Connect again while it is active and the 7 days start over.
Speaking practice
Say it out loud, then hear yourself
Say it like Momo is a simple recording studio. Tap Listen to hear the word, hold the microphone button while you say it, let go, then press play to hear your take. You decide how close you got, and you can try again as often as you like.
- No pronunciation score, no grades and no pressure. The app records you, but nothing checks or rates how you sound.
- 40 words in the studio, including all 18 lines from Hello & Phrases, plus a Say it button in each deck for the card you are on.
- Your recordings stay in your browser. They are never uploaded, each new take replaces the last, and they are gone when you reload.
- Play your take back as a chipmunk, a slow giant, a robot or a kitty. The effects are made on your device.
- Recording needs microphone permission and a browser that supports it. Without that, you can still listen and repeat out loud.

Arabic
The Arabic alphabet and dialect comparisons
Arabic has two cards in the language picker: Lebanese Arabic and Standard Arabic (Fusha). Either one adds sections for the script and for comparing how words are said.
- The Alphabet: all 28 letters, each with its name, its 4 shapes (alone, start, middle, end) and an example word.
- Trace it: trace each letter with your finger to get a feel for its shape.
- On Lebanese cards, a note shows the Fusha form when the card has a separate Lebanese form. School, Clothes and most Transport words have no Lebanese form, so Lebanese learners see Standard Arabic there.
- Dialect lab: 70 words, each shown side by side in Lebanese, Standard Arabic and the other languages in the app, with audio for every row.
- How everyone says it (13+ only): a fold-out box under each card with the same side-by-side rows.
- More Arabic dialects are on the way.

Heritage language
Your family's language, at your own pace
If your family speaks one of Momo's 11 languages, it is a low-key way to build up everyday words. Arabic comes only as Lebanese or Standard Arabic (Fusha), Spanish uses a Mexican voice and Portuguese a Brazilian voice. It will not replace talking with your family, but it gives you words to start with.
Words for home
My Family has 13 cards, with an aunt and an uncle from your mother's side and from your father's side. Then try Hello & Phrases, Food & Drink and Feelings.
Words in their own script
Hindi appears in Devanagari, Russian in Cyrillic, Mandarin in Chinese characters, Bengali in Bengali script and Korean in Hangul, each with a pronunciation hint. Only Arabic has an alphabet section.
Lebanese at home
Choose Lebanese Arabic and 137 cards show the Lebanese form, with a note giving the Standard Arabic (Fusha) word. School, clothes and most transport words stay in Standard Arabic, so ask your family how they say them.
Practise before you say it at home
Use Say it like Momo to hear how you sound before you try a word on your family. Your voice stays on your device.
Honest limits
What Momo is, and what it is not
Momo is for vocabulary and short phrases. Here is what that means in practice.
- It teaches 227 words and phrases in 15 decks. It is not a course, and it does not teach grammar or take you to fluency.
- There is no conversation practice, no tutor and no chatbot.
- It has no speech recognition and does not check or score your pronunciation. Speaking practice means you record yourself and play it back.
- It is not a translator. You cannot type in your own words or sentences. A translate tool is coming soon.
- On the Alphabet letter pages, letter names and example words are spoken by your device's built-in voice, not a pre-made clip.
- You cannot learn English in the word decks. English is the default language each card uses to show the meaning, and you can switch to one of 11 others.
- Mandarin hints are pinyin without tone marks.
- Only Arabic has an alphabet section, and it teaches letter names, not letter sounds.
- The Reading tile in the app is an English phonics tutor for Kindergarten to Grade 3. It is not aimed at teens.
- Vocabulary progress is saved in the browser you use and does not sync to another phone or computer.
Questions teens ask
Can I sign up by myself?
The account holder must be an adult. If you are not an adult yet, ask a parent or guardian to create the account. It starts with a 90-day free trial, and no card is needed. Every sign-in is confirmed by a code sent to the account email, so the account holder will need to pass it on when you sign in.
What happens after the 90-day trial?
There is no card checkout yet, so for now membership after the trial is set up by hand on request. The planned prices are on the pricing page, marked coming soon.
Do I need the App Store or Google Play?
No. Momo is a web app. It runs in a modern web browser on phone, tablet or computer, and you can add it to your home screen.
Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?
No. Recordings stay in your browser's memory and are never uploaded or saved to a server. They are gone when you reload the page.
Will it help with my French or Spanish class?
It covers everyday vocabulary with audio, and nouns come with their article. French uses a voice from France and Spanish uses a Mexican voice. It does not follow a school curriculum or teach grammar, so treat it as extra word practice, not a replacement for class.
Which languages can I learn?
Arabic (Lebanese or Standard Arabic), French, Spanish, Mandarin, Portuguese, German, Hindi, Russian, Polish, Bengali and Korean.
Can I share a tablet with a younger brother or sister?
Yes. Switch the age mode with the button at the top of the screen. On an ordinary account, progress in the word decks is shared by everyone on that browser, even on a different account, because there are no separate learner profiles. A family account (set up by us; you cannot choose one at sign-up yet) holds up to 5 people, each with their own progress on that device, and the app asks who is learning each time it opens.
Does it work without internet?
The word decks do, for up to 7 days at a time. Save offline downloads the audio for your language pair, and the app needs to confirm your trial or membership online at least once every 7 days.
