About the app
What it is, who it suits, where it runs
What is Learning With Momo?
A web app for learning everyday words and short phrases in 11 languages. There are 227 words and phrases in 15 picture decks, from greetings and family to food, numbers and travel. Each picture card plays the word in a clear AI voice, then you practise with short games such as Find it!, How many? and I spy. There is also a separate English reading tutor for children from Kindergarten to Grade 3.
Who is it for?
Children, teens and adults. The app has three age modes: Little Explorer (ages 2 to 5), Big Kid (6 to 12) and Teens and Grown-ups (13+). You pick a mode when you first open the app and can change it any time from the header; there is no age check. Little Explorer has bigger pictures and buttons, and its game prompts are spoken, not written. Big Kid mode and Teens and Grown-ups mode add 16 travel phrases, Memory match and, for Arabic, the 28-letter alphabet with tracing. Speaking practice (Say it like Momo) is in all three modes, Little Explorer included.
Is it a full language course?
No, and we would rather say so up front. Learning With Momo teaches vocabulary and short everyday phrases, plus the Arabic alphabet (letter names and shapes) and English phonics. It does not teach grammar or conversation, it is not a path to fluency, and it does not give certificates. There are no live tutors, teachers or classes, and no AI chatbot or AI tutor. Think of it as picture cards with audio and games, for building everyday words and travel phrases.
Do I need to download an app, and does it work offline?
No download is needed. Learning With Momo is a web app that runs in a modern web browser on phone, tablet or computer. You can add it to your home screen, where it opens in its own window like an app; there is no App Store or Google Play version. Offline use is partial. In Big Kid mode and Teens and Grown-ups mode, tap Save offline on the My progress screen to download the audio for your current language and your "I speak" language, about 8 to 12 MB. Clips you have already played, including reading tutor clips, are kept on the device as well. Offline use lasts up to 7 days after the app last checked your membership; then it asks you to go online once before you carry on. Speaking practice needs microphone permission and a browser that can record audio.
Languages and voices
What you learn and what you hear
Which languages can I learn?
Eleven: Arabic (Lebanese or Standard Arabic), French, Spanish, Mandarin, Portuguese, German, Hindi, Russian, Polish, Bengali and Korean. Every language has the same 227 words and phrases in the same 15 decks, and every card has a pronunciation hint. Words appear in each language's own script: Arabic in Arabic script, Mandarin in characters with pinyin hints (without tone marks), Hindi in Devanagari, Russian in Cyrillic, Bengali in Bengali script and Korean in Hangul. Lebanese cards use the Standard Arabic word wherever the app has no separate Lebanese form, as in School, Clothes and most of Transport. French, Spanish, Portuguese and German nouns come with their article. English is not one of the 11: it is the default "I speak" language on the cards, and it is taught only as phonics in the reading tutor. More Arabic dialects are on the way.
What kind of voices does it use?
Every word has its own pre-made audio clip, spoken by a clear AI (neural) voice. Spanish uses a Mexican voice and Portuguese a Brazilian voice. Arabic has its own voices for Lebanese and for Standard Arabic. A few things, such as the Arabic letter names, use your device's built-in voice instead.
Is there a translator?
Not yet: you cannot type in a word or search for one. A translate tool is coming soon. Today, every card also shows the word in your own language: English by default, or one of 11 others. You choose this "I speak" language on the language screen: English, or any of the 11 languages you can learn, with Arabic shown as Standard Arabic. On learn cards and in Memory match, you hear the word first and then the same word in your language.
Does the app check my pronunciation?
No. In Say it like Momo you tap Listen, hold the microphone button to record yourself, then play it back to hear how you sound. There is no speech recognition and no score, so nothing is graded and there is no pressure. For fun, you can replay your recording as a chipmunk, a slow giant, a robot or a kitty. Say it like Momo is in all three age modes, Little Explorer included, where the microphone and play buttons are bigger for small hands.

What is the reading tutor, and what ages is it for?
A separate English reading tutor that teaches phonics from Kindergarten to Grade 3, in 7 levels. Each session moves from first sounds and blending to reading words and, from level 2, one short sentence. After 8 minutes, it skips ahead to the balloon game and the reward. Every finished step earns a coin, and coins build a treehouse. One account can have up to 6 readers, and their progress is saved on your account, so it follows them from one device to another. A grown-ups area has a printable parent report showing the reader's level, this week's sessions and minutes, and what needs more practice. The reading tutor stops at Grade 3, so it is not meant for teens or adults, and it does not teach reading in Arabic or any other language.
What happens to my child's voice recordings?
A child's voice never leaves the device. Recordings in Say it like Momo and in the reading tutor stay in the browser's memory, each new take replaces the last, and they are gone when the page reloads. No recording is ever uploaded or saved on our servers. In the reading tutor, the microphone is off until a grown-up turns it on, and the grown-ups area is behind a parent check. There is no speech recognition anywhere in the app.
Are there ads, and what data do you keep?
No. There are no ads or ad networks. We do keep our own record of how the app is used, under your account email: app opens, screens and decks opened, minutes, stars, game scores, missed words, language, age mode, and whether the app is installed or used offline. Each day's usage record is deleted 61 days after the day it covers, and your account's line in the daily site totals 121 days after. The reading tutor stores each reader's nickname (up to 16 characters), animal, level and results on our server, under your account; the usage record never includes a child's nickname. A family account also stores each learner's first name or nickname (up to 16 characters), age and animal on our server, under your account; the usage record notes only which learner number was picked, never the name or age. Messages sent from the in-app feedback box are kept with your email for up to 12 months. Fonts are served from our own servers, so no font service sees your visit. Learning With Momo is run by 1001569350 Ontario Inc., a Canadian company, under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).
Can each of my children have their own progress?
Only on a family account, which you cannot choose at sign-up yet. A family account holds up to 5 people in the language app. On first open it asks how many are learning, then each person's first name or nickname, age and an animal picture. After that it asks "Who's learning today?" every time the app opens, and each person has their own stars, stickers, streak, deck scores, language and age mode. That progress stays on each device and does not sync between devices, although the list of names, ages and animals shows on every device signed in to the account. On an ordinary account there are no separate learner profiles in the language app: stars, stickers and streaks are kept once per browser, do not sync or follow your account, and are not cleared by signing out, so everyone who uses the same browser shares one set of progress. The age mode is also saved on the device, so switch it from the header when a different child picks up the tablet. In the reading tutor, any account can have up to 6 readers, each with their own level and results.

Price, sign-in, groups and deletion
How much does it cost, and what happens after the trial?
Every new account starts with a free 90-day trial, counted from the day you sign up, and no card is needed. The app does not show a countdown and we do not send a reminder email, so it helps to note the date. When the trial ends, ask us through the contact page and we set up your membership by hand. Online payment is coming soon, with these planned prices: Individual at $6.99 a month or $59 a year (saves about 30%), Family at $9.99 a month or $89 a year (saves about 25%), and Schools and groups from $3 per learner per month for 20 or more learners. We do not collect payment information.
Why do I get a code every time I sign in?
So that a password alone is not enough to get into your account. Every sign-in needs your email, your password and a new 6-digit code that we email to you, and the code works for 10 minutes on the device that asked for it. Devices are not remembered, so each new sign-in needs a new code, but once you are in, you stay signed in on that device for up to 90 days. To change your password, use "Forgot your password?" on the sign-in page.
Can schools or groups use it?
Yes. We can set up accounts for a class or group by hand, and every learner gets the full app. Each account needs its own email address, every sign-in needs a code sent to that email, and on a shared device everyone using the same browser shares one set of vocabulary progress, apart from a family account, which gives up to 5 people their own. There are no teacher dashboards, class rosters or assignments. Group pricing is coming soon, planned from $3 per learner per month for 20 or more learners. Get in touch through the contact page to set up a group.
How do I delete our account or data?
Go to learningwithmomo.com/delete-account, enter the email on the account, and open the link we send to it. It deletes the account and the data stored with it. In the reading tutor, a grown-up can delete one reader's results, a reader, or all reading data at any time from the grown-ups area, by typing DELETE to confirm. In the language app, "Start fresh" on the My progress screen clears deck progress and words heard in that browser. Your day streak, game wins, recording count and the stickers they earned stay, and Start fresh does not change the usage record we keep.
