11 languages, the same 227 words and phrases

Pick Arabic (Lebanese or Standard Arabic), French, Spanish, Mandarin, Portuguese, German, Hindi, Russian, Polish, Bengali or Korean. Every language gets the same 15 picture decks, the same 4 games and its own audio clip for every word. What changes is the script, the voice and a few details, listed below. Arabic also adds its 28-letter alphabet, with tracing, from Big Kid mode up.

What every language includes

Whichever language you choose, you get everything below. All 3 age modes work in every language: Little Explorer (2-5), Big Kid (6-12) and Teens and Grown-ups (13+). Some features open only from Big Kid mode up, and the cards below say which.

227 words and phrases

15 picture decks: greetings and phrases, family, animals, food and drink, colours, shapes, numbers 1 to 20, body, feelings, nature and weather, things, travel, school, clothes and transport. Little Explorer sees 14, without travel.

A clip for every word

Every word has its own pre-made audio clip, spoken by a clear AI (neural) voice. Tap the card to hear it again.

A hint for saying it

Each card shows the word in its own script, with a pronunciation hint in roman letters below it.

Your own language too

Every card also shows the word in your own language: English by default, or one of 11 others. On learn cards you hear the new word first, then yours.

4 short games

Find it!, How many? and I spy work in every age mode. Memory match starts in Big Kid mode.

16 travel phrases

From "How much is this?" to "What's the wifi password?", in a deck that opens from Big Kid mode up.

Say it like Momo

In every age mode, with bigger buttons in Little Explorer: listen, hold to record, then play yourself back. Recordings stay in your browser's memory, are never uploaded and are gone when you reload.

Stars, stickers and a streak

Each deck has 3 stars to earn: one for seeing every card, one for Find it! and one for Memory match (from Big Kid mode up). Unlock up to 40 stickers and keep a daily streak.

Choose your language

Each language page shows sample words, the voice and the script. Here is what stands out in each one.

العربيةArabicChoose Lebanese or Fusha (Standard Arabic). From Big Kid mode up, Lebanese cards also show the Fusha word when the two differ, and either choice adds the alphabet: 28 letters to trace. Arabic is the only language here with alphabet and tracing pages.FrançaisFrenchThe AI voice speaks French as it is spoken in France. Most nouns come with their article, so you learn la pomme (apple), not just pomme.EspañolSpanishSpoken by a Mexican Spanish AI voice. Most nouns come with el, la, los or las, as in la casa (house) and las uvas (grapes).中文Mandarin ChineseWords are written in Chinese characters with a pinyin hint. The pinyin has no tone marks, so listening to each clip matters.PortuguêsPortugueseSpoken by a Brazilian Portuguese AI voice, and hello is Oi! Most nouns come with o, a, os or as, as in a casa (house) and as uvas (grapes).DeutschGermanMost nouns come with der, die or das, so you learn the article together with the noun.हिन्दीHindiWritten in Devanagari, with a hint in roman letters under every word, so you can say a word before you can read the script.РусскийRussianWritten in Cyrillic and spoken by a Russian AI voice, with a sound-it-out hint in roman letters on every card.PolskiPolishPolish treats 13 of the words as plural, such as drzwi (door) and lody (ice cream), the most of any language here. For those, Find it! asks "Gdzie są…?" (where are) instead of "Gdzie jest…?" (where is).বাংলাBengaliWritten in Bengali script and spoken by a Bangladeshi Bengali AI voice.한국어KoreanWritten in Hangul, with a lower-case roman hint on every word. Numbers 1 to 20 are the native Korean counting numbers, and feelings are said the way Koreans say them, as in "I'm happy".

Questions

Questions about the languages

Can I learn English here?

Not in the vocabulary app. There, English is only the default helper: unless you pick another "I speak" language, each card shows the English word under the word you are learning and its hint. English is taught only in the separate Reading tutor, as phonics for children from Kindergarten to Grade 3.

Which kinds of Arabic can I choose?

Lebanese Arabic or Standard Arabic (Fusha). More Arabic dialects are on the way.

Is the Spanish from Spain, and the Portuguese from Portugal?

Not in the audio. The Spanish clips use a Mexican Spanish AI voice and the Portuguese clips use a Brazilian Portuguese AI voice, so you hear Mexican and Brazilian pronunciation, not the pronunciation of Spain or Portugal.

Can I switch to another language later?

Yes. Every language is included with your account. Choose another language and the app takes you back to Home. Stars are saved in this browser by deck, not by language, so a deck you finished in French already shows its stars in Spanish.

Can I type in a word to translate it?

Not yet. A translate tool is coming soon. Today the app teaches a fixed set of 227 words and phrases, and every card also shows the word in your own language: English by default, or one of 11 others.

Is this a full language course?

No. It covers everyday words and short phrases, plus the Arabic alphabet, with audio, games and a place to record yourself. It is a friendly start or a top-up, not a grammar or conversation course.
