What you learn
What you learn in Polish
Polish gets the same word list as every language in Momo, with nothing left out: all 227 words and phrases are translated, and every card has a pronunciation hint.
15 picture decks
Greetings and everyday phrases, family, animals, food and drink, colours, shapes, numbers 1 to 20, the body, feelings, nature and weather, everyday things, school, clothes, transport and travel. Each card shows the Polish word, a pronunciation hint and the word in your own language.
16 travel phrases
Paying, asking for the menu and the bill, checking in at a hotel, getting around and asking for help, all in Polish with audio. Available in Big Kid and Teens and Grown-ups modes.
Four games in Polish
Find it! and I spy ask for each picture in Polish. Memory match says each word as you match it, and How many? asks "Ile?" and then says the right number in Polish. Memory match starts in Big Kid mode.
Say it like Momo
Listen to the Polish word, hold to record yourself, then play it back, or hear it as a chipmunk, slow giant, robot or kitty. No scores and no grades. Recordings are never uploaded: each take stays in your browser's memory, the next take replaces it, and it is gone when you reload. In all 3 age modes, with bigger record and play buttons in Little Explorer for small hands.
Stars, stickers and a streak
Earn up to 3 stars per deck, unlock up to 40 stickers, hear a word of the day and keep a streak of days in a row. Stars, stickers and the streak do not sync between devices: you see them only in the browser you use.
Made for Polish
What is special about Polish in Momo
Polish asks "Gdzie jest?" (where is) about one thing and "Gdzie są?" (where are) about more than one, and some everyday words that are singular in English are plural in Polish. Momo marks 13 Polish words as plural, the most of any language in the app, so Find it! asks "Gdzie są drzwi?" for a door and "Gdzie są lody?" for ice cream. Each question is its own pre-made clip in the same Polish voice, and I spy uses the same clips.
- Cheers are in Polish too: a right answer in Find it! or I spy brings one of 5 Polish cheers, such as Brawo! or Świetnie!
- On the word decks and in I spy, Big Kid and Teens and Grown-ups see the question written in Polish, with an English line under it. Little Explorer hears it without text.
- On the two phrase decks (Hello & Phrases and Travel Phrases), Find it! says the Polish phrase itself instead of asking a question.
- No articles to learn: Polish nouns appear with no word for "the" or "a" in front, unlike French, Spanish, Portuguese and German in Momo.

The voice
The Polish voice, honestly
Every Polish word and phrase has its own pre-made audio clip, spoken by a clear AI (neural) voice: Microsoft's Zofia, set to Polish as spoken in Poland (pl-PL). It is not a recording of a person. One voice reads every Polish clip. That keeps the sound consistent from deck to deck, but it also means you hear one Polish speaker, not a mix of voices or regional accents.
- 227 word and phrase clips, plus 193 spoken Find it! questions.
- Tap a card to hear it again, as often as you like.
- Clips play at the same speed in every age mode.
- The short greeting when you pick Polish, and any clip that fails to play, use your device's built-in voice instead.
Who it suits
Who Polish in Momo is for
Polish works in all 3 age modes. Here is what each kind of learner gets.
Children
Little Explorer (2 to 5) is pictures and sounds: 14 decks, Find it! with 2 choices, How many? from 1 to 5, I spy, Say it like Momo and stickers. Cards still show the written word. Big Kid (6 to 12) adds the Travel Phrases deck and Memory match.
Heritage families
If Polish is a family language, start with Hello & Phrases (18 cards) and My Family (13): greetings, polite words and the names for close family, with audio to play at home. In every age mode, the Say it like Momo word list includes all 18 greetings and 10 family words, so a child can record Kocham cię (I love you) and hear it back before a call with Babcia.
Travellers
Learn the 16 travel phrases before a trip to Poland, then use Save offline to keep the Polish audio on your device (under 10 MB with English as your helper). Momo then works offline for up to 7 days between check-ins. Both are in Big Kid and Teens and Grown-ups modes.
Teens and grown-ups
Teens and Grown-ups mode (13+) has everything Big Kid has. It suits a parent learning alongside a child, or an adult who wants the everyday words, and how they sound, before a visit to Poland. Expect vocabulary and short phrases, not a course.
What Momo does not do in Polish
Momo teaches Polish words and short phrases with audio; it is not a course. It does not teach Polish grammar (including cases), conversation or reading, and there are no Polish letter or tracing activities (those are for Arabic only). There is no pronunciation scoring: you hear yourself back and decide. The Reading tutor in the app is English phonics only. A translate tool is coming soon; today, every card also shows the word in your own language: English by default, or one of 11 others.
Questions
Questions about Polish in Momo
Why does Momo say "Gdzie są" for some words and "Gdzie jest" for others?
Polish uses "Gdzie są?" (where are) for plural nouns, so Find it! asks it for the 13 Polish words marked as plural, such as buty (shoes) and nożyczki (scissors), and "Gdzie jest?" for every other word. In Big Kid and Teens and Grown-ups modes, the English line under the question still reads "Where is" for every word, so listen to the Polish to catch the plural.
Who is speaking the Polish words?
A clear AI voice: Zofia, a Microsoft neural voice for Polish as spoken in Poland (pl-PL), made ahead of time for every Polish clip. On learn cards, the word in your own language follows in a different AI voice; with English as the helper, that is Microsoft's Ana (en-US).
Does Momo say the English word too?
In some places. On learn cards, in Memory match, Say it like Momo, Today's word and How many?, you hear the Polish first, then the word in your own language (English unless you choose another). Find it! and I spy speak the question in Polish only, so you listen for the Polish word.
We speak Polish at home. Can Polish be the helper language?
Yes. Polski is one of the 12 "I speak" helper languages. Choose it, and cards in any other Momo language also show the word in Polish, and Momo says the Polish word after the new one on learn cards. If you are learning Polish itself, the helper switches to English.
