Games and activities
Every game in the app, and who can play it
Besides the English reading tutor, Learning With Momo has four short games, a speaking practice room called Say it like Momo and, for Arabic learners, the Alphabet with letter tracing and a Dialect lab. The games use words from the picture decks, and every word has its own pre-made audio clip, spoken by a clear AI (neural) voice. Some activities and game settings change with the app's three age modes, so each one below says which modes have it. There are no ads anywhere in the app.

Who can play what
What each age mode gets
Choose a mode when you first open the app, and change it any time from the header. The app does not ask for an age, so pick the mode that suits the learner.
Little Explorer (2 to 5)
14 picture decks (Travel Phrases is not shown), Find it! with 2 big pictures, How many? from 1 to 5, I spy, Say it like Momo with bigger buttons for small hands, Today's word, the day streak and the sticker book. Game prompts are spoken, not written. Memory match, My progress and, for Arabic learners, the Alphabet, Trace it and the Dialect lab are not shown in this mode.
Learn moreBig Kid (6 to 12)
Every Little Explorer activity, with more choices: Find it! has 4 pictures, How many? goes up to 10, and game prompts are written as well as spoken. This mode adds Memory match, My progress and the Travel Phrases deck, for all 15 decks. Arabic learners also get the Alphabet, Trace it and the Dialect lab.
Learn moreTeens and Grown-ups (13+)
Everything in Big Kid mode, with the same game settings. Teens and adults share this mode. Arabic learners also get How everyone says it, a fold-out box under each picture card that shows the word in Arabic and in the app's 10 other languages.

Short games in all 11 languages
Find it! and Memory match open from inside any picture deck and use that deck's words. How many? and I spy are rooms on the home screen.
Find it!
Listen, then tap the right picture. In word decks you hear "Where is...?" in the language you are learning, and in phrase decks you hear the phrase itself. Five rounds per game. A right tap gets a short spoken cheer, and a wrong tap buzzes and plays the prompt again.
- Little Explorer: 2 pictures, spoken prompt only
- Big Kid and Teens and Grown-ups: 4 pictures
Memory match
Flip two cards at a time to match each picture with its written word. Up to 6 pairs per game. Each match speaks the word, then the word in your own language.
- Big Kid and Teens and Grown-ups only
How many?
Count the pictures, then tap the number. You hear "How many?" in the language you are learning (Lebanese learners hear the Standard Arabic كَم؟) and then in your own language, and the right answer is spoken the same way. Five rounds, with 15 kinds of things to count, like ducks, apples and stars.
- Little Explorer: 1 to 5, 2 choices
- Big Kid and Teens and Grown-ups: 1 to 10, 4 choices
I spy
Each game uses one of three scenes (The farm, Snack time or At the park), with 9 things in it. You hear "Where is...?" for 5 of them, one at a time, in the language you are learning, and tap each one you find.
- All three age modes
Speaking practice
Say it like Momo, with silly voices
Tap Listen to hear a word, hold the microphone button and say it, then let go and tap play to hear yourself. After your first recording, play it back as a chipmunk, a slow giant, a robot or a kitty. Nothing is scored or graded, so there is no pressure: say a word as many times as you like. More about speaking practice
- All three age modes, in all 11 languages. Little Explorer gets bigger microphone and play buttons for small hands.
- 40 words in the picker: all 18 from Hello and Phrases, plus 22 from My Family (10), Animals (6) and Food and Drink (6). The Say it button inside any deck opens the word you are on.
- Every 5th recording unlocks a sticker
- Your recording stays in your browser. It is never uploaded, each new take replaces the last, and it is gone when you reload.
- No microphone, or no permission? Listen and repeat out loud instead.

For Arabic learners
The Alphabet, Trace it and the Dialect lab
Learning Arabic (Lebanese or Standard Arabic)? Big Kid and Teens and Grown-ups modes add the Alphabet, a room with all 28 letters. Each letter page shows the letter's name, a transliteration, its four forms (alone, start, middle and end) and an example word with an emoji, like ب with بَطّة (duck). The Alphabet comes with Trace it, where you draw over a grey letter with your finger. These modes also add the Dialect lab: pick one of 70 words and tap to hear it in Arabic and in the app's 10 other languages. More about learning Arabic
- Cover at least half of the letter, then tap Done to hear its name. Only coverage counts: stroke order and neatness are not marked.
- The app teaches letter names (alif, baa and so on), not letter sounds.
- No other language in the app has letters or tracing.

Rewards and progress
How stars, stickers and streaks are earned
Stars, stickers and the streak are saved in this browser on this device, and they do not move to another device. There is one set per browser on an ordinary account, not one per language or per learner: a star earned in French still shows if you switch to Spanish, and children sharing a tablet share one sticker book. A family account (set up by us; you cannot choose one at sign-up yet) gives each of up to 5 people their own stars, stickers and streak on each device. Stickers, the streak, Today's word and celebrations come in every age mode. My progress starts in Big Kid mode.
Stars
Each deck has 3 stars: one for seeing every card in a single visit, one for finishing Find it! and one for finishing Memory match. That makes 45 across the 15 decks in Big Kid and Teens and Grown-ups modes.
Sticker book
40 emoji stickers that unlock in a set order. Every deck star earns one, and so do every 5 recordings, every 3 finished games of How many?, every 3 finished games of I spy, and day streaks of 3, 7, 14 and 30 days.
Day streak
The flame counter on the home screen shows how many days in a row the app has been opened on this device, by your local calendar.
Today's word
One word a day from the picture decks, the same for every learner. Tap it to hear it.
Celebrations
Finish Find it!, Memory match, How many? or I spy for confetti, stars and a spoken bravo in the language you are learning, then pick Play again or Done. Little Explorer sees "Yaaay!", Big Kid "Amazing!" and Teens and Grown-ups "Nice work!"
My progress
Stars, decks completed, a count of words heard on learn cards and in Memory matches (replays count too), a score out of 100 and a medal for each deck, and a small chart of your recent Find it! and Memory match games.
Questions
Questions about the games
Which games can children aged 2 to 5 play?
Pick Little Explorer mode. It has Find it! with 2 pictures, How many? from 1 to 5 and I spy, with prompts spoken rather than written, plus Say it like Momo, stickers, Today's word and a day streak. Memory match and, for Arabic learners, the Alphabet and Trace it start in Big Kid mode.
Do the games work in every language?
Find it!, Memory match, How many?, I spy and Say it like Momo work in all 11 languages. The Alphabet, Trace it and the Dialect lab are for Arabic learners only (Lebanese or Standard Arabic).
Does the app score my pronunciation?
No. You record yourself and play it back, in your own voice or a silly one. There is no speech recognition, no pronunciation score and no grade. Your recording stays in your browser and is never uploaded.
Are game results saved?
Stars, stickers, the streak and My progress are saved in this browser on this device, and they are not synced to your other devices. The app also keeps daily usage records under your account email, such as stars, game scores, missed words and minutes played. Reading tutor progress is different: it is saved on your account and follows you across devices.
Looking for the reading tutor?
The English reading tutor is a separate room with its own short sessions: sounding out words, a "Which word did I say?" listening game and a balloon game, with coins that build a treehouse. It teaches English phonics for Kindergarten to Grade 3, whatever language you are learning in the rest of the app. See how Reading works
